Prince William County Recreation

Are you planning a trip to Northern Virginia soon and looking for some ideas to stay busy? Or are you a resident looking for something different to do this weekend. Let's take a look at Prince William County VA recreation and see what is going on.

Spending time in any of the Prince William County libraries may not be every ones idea of entertainment but it is near the top of my list. There is a lot of Virginia history to be found in these buildings, well worth the time spent visiting them.

Site-seeing is a favorite activity for newcomers to the area. There are many historic buildings to see and places to visit. In Dumfries you will find the Weems-Botts Museum and the bandstand in Merchant Park. These are both places with historic significance and a nice way to spend a day.

The National Museum of the Marine Corps is located in Quantico and was just opened in 2006. It is part of the Marine Corps Heritage Center. Some of the exhibits that can be seen are the Leatherneck Gallery, the Legacy Walk, Making Marines and several different exhibits about different wars. It's very modern and high-tech. A must-do recreation or entertainment event.

Your Prince William County Recreation might also include a trip to one of the parks. Prince William Forest National Park, the Manassas National Battlefield Park or the Leesylvania State Park are all relaxing ways to spend the day. History is everywhere in Prince William County. Every town has it's landmarks, old buildings, parks, famous cemeteries and important battlefields.

If you need a break from all that and want to do something the kids will truly love, try the water park in Manassas. The Splash Down Water Park has everything a good water park should have. They have two 4-story waterslides, a lazy river, two cannonball slides and two tropical twister water slides. Weather permitting of course, this place looks like a day of fun for the whole family.

What else can you do? Let's see, there is the House of Bounce and Laser Quest, both great ways to let the kids burn off some energy. The Old Mine Ranch has pony rides and a baby pet parade. If a day of kayaking is your thing, try Lake Ridge Park. For relaxing, how about bird watching at the Julie J. Metz Wetland Bank in Woodbridge or the Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge. A day at Greenville Farms would include pond fishing and other camping activities. Or, how about a weekend retreat only 2 hours away, for some different family fun activities.

These are just some of the ways visitors find Prince William County VA recreation. Yes, you might say they have it all, camping, fishing, hiking, sight seeing, swimming, water sports, hiking and so much more, and of course plenty of shopping and fine dining. Next time you are in the area, plan a few days, and enjoy this wonderful part of the country.
